We left Sanibel Island so we could drive to Orlando. My family was driving in the following day and we wanted to explore the Wakiwa Springs State Park.
“Located at the headwaters of the Wekiva River, the beautiful vistas within this park offer a glimpse of what Central Florida looked like when Timucuan Indians fished and hunted these lands. Just one hour from most central Florida attractions, Wekiwa Springs offers visitors the opportunity to relax in a natural setting, enjoy a picnic, or take a swim in the cool spring.”
Although it was kind of chilly out, I’m glad we decided to visit in the middle of January because it was empty. Occasionally we would spot some other people walking around, but for the most part, we had the place to ourselves!
The entrance fee was $6 per car, and it was very worth it. You can camp, hike, and even swim! We really enjoyed walking around on the trails and looking at all the beautiful views and plantation. We aren’t sure what it’s like during the summertime, but it’s probably packed. If you can come in the off season, it would probably be a more relaxing experience.
If you’re wondering, I got these boots for Christmas. They were bought on the Clemson store website but they are currently sold out. 😦
We weren’t planning on swimming in the cool spring, but when we felt the water it was surprisingly warm, so we changed into our swimsuits and hopped in…because why not?!
This was such a fun experience! If you’re ever in the area, you should stop by and make a day out of it. This would be the perfect place to spend a hot summer day with the whole family.
I have to make a note of this – swimming in the cool spring looks so fun!
